Lake Michigan Salmon Fishing Report
The cold water has moved deep and so have the fish. We had several factors working against us this week. The remnants of the strong NE blow we had last weekend, a cold front that stalled right on top of us and a full moon. These factors lead to some tough trout and salmon fishing. We were able to find fish in 250-300 feet of water for our customers. Flasher/flies, meat rigs and spoons all seemed about equal for productivity. Mixed veggies mag spoons, white or green flashers with Poseidon 50/50 flies, Musselhead meat rigs behind chrome spin doctors all produced multiple fish. The nice part of this past week was the cold water was only down 50-60ft so it was easily reached once you got deep enough to find it. The fish seem to be in small pockets so don’t hesitate to mark a spot if you get a bite and turn back around and work back through the same area. Currents are a real factor out deep so pay special attention to your rigger cables, dipsys and boards to make sure both sides of the boat are pulling the same. We need some strong west wind or at least a few days of stable weather. We are heading into August where we catch the biggest fish of the year!! Get out there and get some!!
Tight lines and good luck!!,
